Living options

The eight levels of care, in EveryAge's own words

Rewritten to lead with the answer. Each block below opens with the definition a search engine — or an AI assistant — can lift verbatim, then adds the warmth underneath.

Independent Living

A resident lives in their own residential home, and services like housekeeping and meal delivery are available. Cottages, villas, patio homes and apartments — at Abernethy Laurels, from 1,000 sq. ft.

Assisted Living

A more supportive lifestyle when a resident is seeking assistance with daily activities such as bathing, getting to and from meals, dressing or taking medications.

Memory Care

For those with Alzheimer's or other dementia-related conditions: 24-hour care in a secure unit with staff who have specialized training. Abernethy Laurels offers secured memory support in three households.

Skilled Nursing

24-hour care under the direction of an inter-disciplinary team, including nursing care for medical monitoring and medication management. Medicare and Medicaid certified.

Rehabilitation & Therapy

Short-term rehabilitation for individuals recovering from surgery, illness or injury — physical, occupational and speech therapy, with transitional short-stay recovery.

PACE & Home Care

EveryAge sponsors two national PACE programs — Carolina SeniorCare and Elderhaus — for elders who wish to remain in their community while receiving medical and supportive services at home.

Costs & FAQ

The questions families ask before they call

Answer-ready copy, marked up as FAQPage schema. This is the block that decides whether an AI assistant cites EveryAge — or cites a lead-broker directory instead.

How much does it cost to live at an EveryAge community?

Costs vary by community, residence size and level of care. Life plan communities combine a one-time entrance fee with a monthly service fee; assisted living and memory care are billed monthly. Affordable housing communities are HUD-assisted and set rent as a share of income. Request a personalized cost sheet for any community and we'll send it the same working day.

Which EveryAge communities offer memory care?

Four: Abernethy Laurels (Newton, NC — secured memory support in three households), Piedmont Crossing (Thomasville, NC), Lake Prince Woods (Suffolk, VA) and Providence Place (High Point, NC).

Is there a waiting list, and how long is it?

Waitlists are maintained per community and per residence type, and move at different speeds. Joining the priority list is free and non-binding, and it is the single best predictor of getting the residence you want.

Do you accept Medicare and Medicaid?

Skilled nursing centers at the life plan communities are Medicare and Medicaid certified. PACE participants receive all-inclusive care coordinated through Carolina SeniorCare or Elderhaus.

Who runs EveryAge?

Lee Syria is President and Chief Executive Officer. EveryAge is a Christian ministry incorporated in 1961 as United Church Homes and Services, renamed EveryAge in 2021, headquartered at 100 Leonard Avenue, Newton, NC 28658.

Can I visit before deciding?

Yes — and you can book it yourself, below, without waiting for a callback. Visits run seven days a week and take about 90 minutes including lunch.

Schedule a visit

Pick a time. That's the whole process.

The current site routes every tour request to "please call 828-464-8264." This replaces that with a self-serve calendar — the single highest-yield change on the page.

Roughly seven in ten senior-living inquiries now arrive outside business hours, from an adult child researching after their own working day. A phone number is a closed door to that person. A calendar is an open one — and it captures the inquiry, the community, the care level and the date in one structured record you can actually report on.
